The Western Addition Beacon Center is a youth and family center located at John Muir Elementary School and at Raoul Wallenberg Traditional High School. The Western Addition Beacon provides quality services and after-school programming for the student bodies at both schools. The WA Beacon also serves as a community center addressing the specific needs of the Western Addition community. Through a neighborhood partnership between Ella Hill Hutch Community Center and Buchanan YMCA, our mission is to enrich the lives of community members and to ensure the healthy development of young people. Our organizational approach helps us to accomplish these commitments.
The Western Addition Beacon relocated to John Muir in 2005 following the school closures at Ben Franklin and Golden Gate Academy. Having faithfully served these two schools, the Western Addition Beacon Center relocated, regrouped and has expanded quality service reaching out to the parents, students and faculties of John Muir Elementary School and Raoul Wallenberg Traditional High School. With its new location, the Beacon Center will continue its efforts to reach out to the broader Western Addition community and address the needs of the community where it will be most effective.
